News for May
The Village Family Fun Day is back!
Sunday, 8th September - put the date in your diaries now as this will be Stratton Family Fun Day.
The fun will start at 12 noon and carry on until 4pm. This year, all monies raised will go towards the Village Hall car park.
As usual, we are looking for as many people as possible to help us organise the day, run the various stalls, and generally help out to make the event go smoothly - and successfully! If you would like to help, please let Sue Bartucca know - her contact number is 0780 172 1162.
All the usual attractions will be there - cake stall, BBQ, beer tent, live music, cake stall, tombola, quad bikes, bouncy castle, coconut shy, raffle, children’s games, crockery smash - plus events in the ring and the tug-of-war and trade stands.
Contributions of items for the tombola, cake stall and raffle will be needed - as well as crockery to smash for one of our favourite stalls! These can be dropped off with Dave Stock, Sue Bartucca - or any of the usual suspects from the Village Hall Committee or Community Garden Committee.
Following the Fatal Road Traffic Accident at Killings Knapp on 14th November 2012 and subsequent lobbying of Somerset Highways by the Parish Council, the following road signage improvements will be made at the A367, B3355 junction where the accident occurred:
- Mount the existing give-way sign on 2 posts (rather than the one at the moment) to prevent the sign from spinning round.
- Replace the existing Advance Direction Sign with an Advance Give Way warning sign and include a distance plate e.g.100 yrd. This should drivers a clearer indication of the hazard ahead.
- Include a 'Slow' marking on the road before the junction
The Parish Council is informed that the above works will be ordered by Jeff Bunting, the Mendip Area Traffic Engineer, approximately four weeks after the date of this notification (on November 29th), when Somerset Highways have obtained utility company details (location of underground services etc.). Mr Bunting has assured the Parish Council that the work will be completed by Somerset County Council before the end of the financial year
(The Parish Council understands that this has now been delayed.)
Modernisation of the Pinch Point just above the junction of the A367 and Green Lane. Following intense lobbying by the Parish Council, this pinchpoint will be moved more into the centre of the road. In the current situation large lorries, in particular, come very close to the pavement - indeed some of their wing mirrors overhang the pavement - and this is very dangerous for pedestrians. Your Parish Council have been lobbying for nearly a year and has at last been informed that this work will also be carried out by Somerset County Council before the end of the financial year.
(The Parish Council understands that this has also now been delayed until July as the road will have to be closed and then the schools will be on holiday.)
Parish Council Meeting
The next Parish Council meeting will take place on Monday, May 20th at 7.45 pm. All are very welcome to attend as always. The Draft minutes for the last meeting can be seen by clicking here.

The Wells Mobile Library will now visit the car park of the Kings Arms Public House. The dates and times can be found by clicking here.
