Brown Bin Garden Waste Collection
- There is a charge for fortnightly garden waste collections.
- The garden waste collection service is available to all properties across Mendip. Brown wheeled bins (180 litres) can be hired by householders with gardens to separate garden waste for composting. The cost for a year's subscription is £42.50. The subscription year runs from 1st April until 31st March. Alternatively garden waste sacks can be obtained when required costing £25 for 10 sacks.

- Collections are on alternate weeks to Green Bin Collections
- Garden waste will only be collected if contained inside the special wheelie bins or paper sacks that you have ordered.
- Wheeled bin lids must be closed.
- Yes Please - Flowers, plants and weeds, Grass cuttings, Straw or sawdust, Hedge prunings (not more than 10cm thick)
- No Thanks - Plastic, Metal, Glass, Food waste, Soil and tur,f Stone and rubble, Treated wood, Wood (over 10cm/4" thick,) Plant pot,s Cat and Dog litter, Vacuum cleaner contents, Nappies, Other household waste.
Terms and Conditions of Service
- When applying for the garden waste collection service you must adhere to the following terms and conditions:
- Your subscription fee is for a 12 month period (1st April to 31st March) and will expire at the end of that period. If you do not wish to renew your subscription at the start of the subscription period your garden waste collections will cease without any further notice.
- There will be approximately 25 garden waste collections in one 12 month subscription year (1st April to 31st March).
- There will be no garden waste collections over the Christmas period. Confirmation of which collection dates will be affected will be published prior to the Christmas period.
- In the event of bad weather, frozen bin contents, national fuel shortages, or similar event/situation where collection crews are unable to empty the bin the Somerset Waste Partnership reserve the right to cancel collections without prior warning and recommence the service when practical to do so.
- In the event of bad weather please DO NOT contact the council to report this as a missed collection as they will already have your address listed for recollection. If however it is not collected within four working days, following the end of the inclement weather, please contact us and we will investigate the missed collection.
- Garden waste bins MUST be put out for collection before 0700 on the day of collection. Please note that collection times can vary due to various reasons; breakdowns, traffic congestions etc.
- All garden waste must be contained within the bin for collection. Excess waste outside the bin will not be taken.
- If you wish to cancel the service before the end of the 12 month subscription period you will not be entitled to a refund.
- If you move house please contact customer services to let us know whether you will be taking the garden waste bin with you (if moving within Somerset) or leaving it at the property. A refund will not be provided.
